88th Academy Awards - Fashion Dreams

Gucci Fall/Winter 2016, Milan Runway
The Academy Awards equate to Christmas morning for fashion lovers and it is the biggest red carpet of the year. Everyone watching wants to be wowed and left thinking of couture gowns. Personally, I am hoping that this year there are a lot of contenders for best dressed and the we do not see any horrific red carpet gown that are a shoe in for worst dressed.  Having said that, we know there will be fashion standouts, both good and bad, at the 2016 Oscars. In keeping with tradition, the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress nominees will be the ones to watch, as fashion lovers crave beautiful gowns more than tuxedos, due to their unique ability to move us emotionally.
Like many of you, I have a wish-list of gowns I would love to see on the red carpet at this year's Oscars. Here are some of the nominees, and what I would style them in, if given the chance.

The Gucci gown (above right), which was shown on the runway during Milan Fashion Week, and would be a fabulous choice for Rooney Mara, who is nominated this year for Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Carol.  Rooney loves to wear black on the red carpet, and this gown is a MUST for the biggest awards show of the year.  Both edgy and feminine, it is the perfect fit for Rooney and I think she would rock it!  See some of her recent looks below:

Nominated for her first Oscar, Brie Larson is up against an amazingly talented group of women with her nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Room.  If you haven't seen this film, check out the trailer here.  I have a strong feeling that her first nomination will garner a win for Brie, as her performance is more than stand-out; It is incredible.

McQueen, Pre-Fall 2016

Marchesa, Pre-Fall 2016
Larson can wear just about anything, but it would be refreshing to see something really glamorous and unique on her for her first Oscars Red Carpet, especially since she is a favorite to win. Larson needs to go big, with a print or something bold, unique, and modern.  To the left and rightI have found two looks that she could definitely pull off and win on the Red Carpet along with her Oscar win. The Alexander McQueen printed gown, lined properly, would draw attention and would be a very polarizing look.  The Marchesa gown is very feminine, and would need perfect makeup, hair and very little accessorizing.

Finally, we have Cate Blanchett, who is nominated for Best Actress in a motion picture for Carol. Cate knows how to work a red carpet like a queen.  She has been nominated six times for an Oscar and has won twice, so far. Below are some of her most memorable looks.

Gigi Hadid in Chanel Haute Couture 2016
My favorite looks on Cate are nudes, blush and light colors, because she always has her hair and makeup on-point, and pulls off the "goddess of the carpet" so well.  For the 2016 Oscars, I would love to put her in something elegant and classy, that is also flattering.  I also love Chanel.  The look to the right, if custom made for Cate and maybe even full length, would make my night.  I can't wait to see what she decides to wear!

There are so many gowns and so many talented women nominated, and I only had time to dream about looks for three! Please follow my blog for updates on best and worst dressed at this year's Oscars, and more.

Get ready for the 88th Academy Awards.  There will be so much fashion on that carpet, it will be hard to keep up.  I will have a poll for the best-dressed and worst-dressed following the awards.

Week in Review: Best Dressed Choices

The Cannes Film Festival and the Billboard Music Awards gave us some great red carpet moments this week.  While everyone has an opinion for Best and Worst Dressed this week, there were a few stunners that cannot be overlooked.

My #3 Film Fashionista Favorite of the week:

Kesha, 2014 BBMA
Believe it or not, my #3 pick is Kesha.  Or, as her new Twitter handle indicates, KeshaRose.  Her hair, which now has pink running through it, was loosely pinned back, and Kesha hit the red carpet at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards Sunday looking absolutely AMAZING!

Perhaps she was a bit overdressed for the occasion, but considering she just finished two months of rehab for an eating disorder, she really looked healthy and glamorous in a black, lace-over- gray and tulle gown, which also featured a train. She wore very little makeup, which only added to the allure of the look and pulled it all together.  For me, this is the best Kesha has looked on a red carpet.

Blake Lively, Cannes
My #2 Film Fashionista Favorite of the week:

Wearing a magnificently GORGEOUS Chanel Couture gown (pictured right), Blake Lively at the Cannes Film Festival is my #2 pick.  The glimmering-white gown, which was partially sheer, dazzled on the red carpet at Cannes.  To top off the look, Lively wore Sophia Webster shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.  The back of the dress was just as beautiful as the front (pictured below).
Back of Lively's Chanel Gown
As a matter of fact, Lively could do no wrong in Cannes, and she wore many looks at the film festival that are worthy of best dressed lists.  This dress, however, takes the cake.  In a word: fabulous.  I am sure her husband, the very lucky Ryan Reynolds, was proud to be escorting her on the red carpet.

My #1 Film Fashionista of the week:

18-year old fashion model Kendall Jenner, who stole the show on the red carpet when she arrived at the Cannes Film Festival, then
Kendall Jenner, Cannes
went on to the premiere of Grace of Monaco.  Wearing a beautiful black-and-white Chanel gown (pictured left), she was completely captivating as she walked the carpet.  The gown featured a bodice with a unique graphic print, and a feathering with ruffles.  The bottom/skirt portion of the gown hit mid-length, had a modest middle slit up the front and two flattering pockets on the front.

Kendall's earrings were dazzling; she wore two Chopard rings and an impressive bracelet.  Strappy black sandals and a silvery clutch topped off the outfit.

While some found the outfit too simple, I found the look simply stunning.  It was perfect for Kendall, and it photographed so well.  Sometimes, less is more, and in this case it all came together and worked perfectly.

Please leave your comments below and let me know what you think of these three outfits, and which one if your favorite.  Follow me if you love fashion, fashion in film, movies in general, television and frequent and original updates on all of the above!

MTV Movie Awards - Fashion Winners . . . My Top Four

Balmain Pre-Fall 2014

Shailene Woodley, MTV Movie Awards 2014
The super-talented Shailene Woodley rocked the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday night in a leather outfit by Balmain, showing off a bit of midriff and garnering lots of love from her Twitter fans as a candidate for best dressed.

Woodley also wore Jimmy Choo's that went great with her powerful outfit.  Woodley changed the outfit up a bit from how it was shown on the runway, and I think it was a good decision.  The photo on the right is the runway look.  What do you think?

Lupita Nyong'o also went high fashion, choosing to wear a

colorful, high fashion dress from Chanel's Fall RTW 2014 line. In the picture on the left, you can see Lupita Nyong'o wearing the dress at MTV Movie Awards event on top, and the runway model's pictures from the Chanel Runway Show on the bottom.  If you ask me, Lupita wore it best!

Nyong'o's Makeup "Disco-Style"
The lovely Nyong'o still had on her signature "Nairobi Blue," as you can see in the shoes she chose to wear (which are actually a gorgeous Azure blue by Casadei).  Large, dazzling and colorful sequins on the shoulders make this dress a Chanel masterpiece.  Nyong'o wore simple jewelry and beautiful "Disco-Style" makeup (see closeup on the right) that made this outfit a shoe-in for a top spot on the best dressed list, and my personal favorite.

Jimmy Choo "Lance" Sandal in Silver
Disney Channel Starlet Bella Thorne blew my mind in a spectacular little icy blue Versace dress with rosette detailing and asymmetrical sleeves.  The young actress wore Jimmy Choo "Lance" sandals (right) in silver, and kept her makeup sweet and simple.  Her hair was down and loose, and she looked great.

What I really loved about the dress was draping on the front and how it played with the rosettes and asymmetric sleeves to create an unusual but playful look.  The dress was a sophisticated, yet still fun choice for Thorne.  She looked wonderful and the whole ensemble photographed well.  This puts her on my best dressed list.

Zendaya Coleman in Ungaro
Last, but not least, another young actress - one who surprised me with her choice and continues to grow as a fashion inspiration for women both young and old everywhere.  Zendaya Coleman, formerly of "Shake it Up" on Disney and now an actress and singer, was on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards and she looked incredible in a floral Ungaro dress, carrying a Swarovski bag.

Zendaya w/ Swarovski bag, rings, & flawless makeup
Zendaya topped off the look with Christian Louboutin shoes and some stunning jewelry by Jacob & Co., Dionea Orcini and John Hardy.   How could she go wrong with this combination?  I would love to own this dress, and it great for a younger demographic, as well.

Runway Model - Ungaro RTW 2014 Show
I never would have guessed from Ungaro's RTW Runway 2014 show that this dress would have looked so good!  Don't get me wrong, he put on a great show (I watched it online a couple of times) - but the picture at the right is the picture of this dress as it came down the runway at his show.  Let me know if you think Zendaya wore it better.  I sure do!
